Getting Started
What is Naybar?+
Naybar is a hyperlocal social discovery platform. Content is organised around your physical location, not a social graph. You see posts, geonotes, and people tied to where you actually are right now — not who you follow.
What are the main features?+
Drop Posts (pinned to a fixed location), Carry Posts (travel with you as you move), Geonotes (presence-locked 10-metre radius messages), Local Chat (chat with nearby users), Private Chat (one-to-one messaging), People (contacts and local users), and a live location feed. You can also promote posts for expanded reach and earn from boosts you receive.
What does Local vs Explorer mode mean?+
Local mode shows content within your set radius based on your current GPS position. Explorer mode activates when your pinned map location is more than 10km from your physical GPS position — letting you browse any area in the world without being physically there. Moving your map pin back within 10km of your GPS position returns you to Local.
How do I navigate?+
The bottom navigation tabs take you between your home feed, chat, people, and geonotes. The map sits at the top of the home screen. Header icons give you options relevant to the screen you are on. Everything is location-aware.
How do I set my radius?+
Use the map zoom controls or the radius selector. Your active radius determines what content you see and who sees your content. Ranges go from 10m up to 10km. Promoted posts bypass this and appear based on their promotion tier.
Posts & Geonotes
What is a Drop Post?+
A Drop Post is pinned to the exact location you were at when you created it. It stays at those coordinates permanently. Anyone within that post's radius who comes to that location will see it.
What is a Carry Post?+
A Carry Post is attached to your live GPS coordinates and moves with you. People near you see it wherever you go. If you stop moving, it stays at your last known position.
What is a Geonote?+
A Geonote is a presence-locked message. It has a fixed 10-metre radius — you must physically be within 10 metres of its pin to read it. You can set a duration (1 day to 1 month), a view limit, and an optional 4-character lock code for extra privacy. You can also post anonymously.
Can I attach media to posts?+
Yes. Posts support images (up to 10, with aspect ratio options), video, audio, and PDF. You cannot mix types in a single post. Geonotes also support media.
How does post engagement work?+
Each post has four actions: Boost (appreciation — earns the poster R1 per qualified boost), Respond (open the comment thread), Keep (save the post to your kept list), and Boo (flag content you dislike). Boost and Boo are mutually exclusive — selecting one removes the other.
What does the location toggle on compose do?+
It controls whether a visible location label is shown on your post. Toggling it off removes the visible pin label, but your post is still geographically anchored to your coordinates and filtered accordingly.
How long do geonotes last?+
You set the duration when composing: from 1 Day up to 1 Month. View limits can expire a geonote earlier if the view cap is reached before the time is up.
Promoted Posts
What is a Promoted Post?+
Promoting a post pushes it beyond its natural radius to a wider audience for 1 hour. During that hour it appears at the top of the feed for users who fall within your chosen promotion tier, regardless of their own radius setting.
What promotion tiers are available?+
20km, 50km, and 100km radius tiers reach users within that distance from your post's origin. City, State / Province, and Country tiers reach users registered to that specific region. Global reaches all Naybar users worldwide.
How long does promotion last?+
Exactly 1 hour from the moment payment is confirmed. After that your post reverts to its normal radius and mode automatically — no action needed on your part.
How do I promote a post?+
When composing a post, tap the promote button in the compose toolbar. Select a tier — the cost is shown in your local currency. For City, State, or Country tiers you will be asked to specify the target region. Once you tap post, payment is processed via PayFast. Your post goes live once payment is confirmed.
What payment methods are accepted for promotion?+
Promotion payments are processed through PayFast, which supports card payments, EFT, and other available PayFast payment methods.
Earnings
How do I earn on Naybar?+
Every boost your posts or comments receive from a qualified account earns you R1 (~$0.05). Qualified means the boosting account has been registered for at least 7 days. Boosts from brand-new accounts do not count.
How are earnings displayed?+
South African users see their balance in Rands. Users in all other countries see the equivalent in US Dollars, converted at the live market rate. The rate updates automatically.
When do I get paid?+
Earnings are paid out monthly once you reach the minimum threshold of R2000 (~$100 USD). Payouts are via bank transfer for South African accounts or PayPal for international users. Payment processing is currently in beta — you will be notified when payouts are available for your account.
Can I game the boost system?+
No. Creating fake accounts to boost your own content, participating in boost-exchange schemes, or using automated tools will result in earnings forfeiture and account suspension. Only genuine engagement from real, active users counts.
Chat
Who can I chat with?+
Any user who appears in your Local list (people nearby) or your Contacts list. Private chat is one-to-one. Local Chat is a shared space for users within your current radius.
What are Kept Chats?+
Kept Chats are conversations you have archived. They are moved out of your main conversation list and stored under Kept Chats in the chat menu. You can unkeep a chat at any time to return it to the main list.
Can I send files and voice notes?+
Yes. The chat footer has an attach button for images, video, audio, and PDF, and a dedicated voice note button. Hold the voice button to record and release to send.
What is Out of Bounds Spam?+
Messages received from users whose location falls outside your current radius are automatically routed to the Out of Bounds Spam folder, keeping your main inbox relevant to your actual surroundings.
Location
What is Live Location mode?+
Toggling the sync icon activates Live Location. Your GPS position is polled every 3 seconds, the map and feed update continuously, and Carry Posts follow you in real time.
What does the Auto-scroll button do?+
When Live Location and Auto-scroll are both on, the post feed scrolls automatically and new posts from each location update are prepended at the top — creating a live, self-advancing feed tied to your movement.
How does Explorer mode work?+
Move the map pin more than 10km from your physical GPS position and Naybar switches to Explorer mode. You can browse content for that remote area as if you were there. Your explorer coordinates persist across reloads. Moving the pin back within 10km of your GPS position returns you to Local mode.
Can I save locations?+
Yes. Open the map options and choose Keep Location. Give it a name, set it as public or private, and it is saved to your Kept Locations for quick access later.
What is Location History?+
Naybar logs the locations you have browsed. Access them via map options → Your Location History. Tap any entry to jump back to that position.
People
How do I add a contact?+
Go to the People tab, open the menu, and tap Add New Contact. Search by username, name, or phone number. Added contacts appear in your Contacts list.
Who appears in the Local list?+
Naybar users whose current location falls within your active radius. They do not need to be contacts — they are simply nearby users.
How do I block someone?+
Open their profile, tap the three-dot menu, and select Block User. Blocked users cannot see your content and will not appear in your feeds or local list. Manage your blocked list via People → menu → Blocked List.
Privacy & Safety
Can I post anonymously?+
Geonotes have an anonymous toggle on the compose screen. Enabling it hides your identity from anyone who reads that geonote.
How do I report content or a user?+
Tap the three-dot menu on a post, comment, geonote, or user profile and select Report. Provide a description of at least 10 characters and submit. Reports are reviewed by the Naybar team.
How is my location used?+
Your location is used solely to filter and surface geographically relevant content. It powers your feed, saved locations, and location history. It is never sold or shared with third parties.
Can I edit my username or name?+
Your full name can be changed once. Your username can be changed up to 3 times. Both are editable from your profile by tapping your name or handle directly.
